“A New Era in Türkiye–Somalia Relations: Trust, Cooperation, and Strategic Partnership” Panel to be held

On 10 September 2026, the Directorate of Communications will hold the "A New Era in Türkiye–Somalia Relations: Trust, Cooperation, and Strategic Partnership" Panel in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, with the aim of addressing the deep-rooted, multidimensional relations between Türkiye and Somalia in terms of strategic partnership, mutual trust, and cooperation.

At the panel, critical issues such as the historical background of relations between the two countries, the strategic dimension of bilateral relations, the current state of bilateral cooperation and areas for further development will be discussed from an academic and holistic perspective.

The Presidency's Head of Communications Prof. Burhanettin Duran will address the participants via a video message, while the opening speeches of the programme will be delivered by Alper Aktaş, Ambassador of Türkiye to Mogadishu; Salah Ahmed Jama, Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia; and Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia.

Foreign Policy Researcher at the SETA Foundation, Dr Tunç Demirtaş will moderate the panel, which will feature Abdulfatah Kasim Mohamud, Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism of the Federal Republic of Somalia; Deniz Demir, Coordinator of the Centre for Combating Disinformation of the Presidency's Directorate of Communications; Prof. Yahya Amir Hagi Ibrahim, Somaville University Faculty Member; Mohamed Haji Yussuf, Director of the Office of the Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, and Onur Çelik, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Somalia in Afyonkarahisar, as speakers.
