Presidency’s Head of Communications Duran Visits “Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror and the Conquest of Istanbul” Immersive Exhibition Tent

Presidency’s Head of Communications, BurhanettinDuran, visited the immersive visual exhibition tent titled “Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror and the Conquest of İstanbul,” set up in Sultanahmet Square as part of the celebrations marking the 573rd anniversary of the conquest of İstanbul.

Speaking to journalists after viewing the presentation depicting the conquest of İstanbul, Head of Communications Duran stated that the conquest on 29 May 1453 was not merely the conquest of a city, but also a conquest of minds.

Noting that the project aimed to showcase the background of a great civilisational legacy, Head of Communications Duran said: “We wanted to highlight both the intellectual character of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror and the civilisation that was built through the achievements that followed. This presentation is the result of approximately one month of dedicated work.”

Head of Communications Duran said that the immersive exhibition tent, put together by artists who used information gathered from distinguished historians, was a very nice showcase, and stated, "As the Directorate of Communications, we wanted to tell the story of the conquest a little differently this year. We have sought to explain not only the military victory and the course of the war, but also the underlying intellectual dimension, the cultural richness, and how the capital of a civilisation was subsequently rebuilt. In this sense, it was a beautiful piece of work. I recommend everyone to come here and see this exhibition."

Noting that the anniversary of the conquest coincided with the third day of Eid al-Adha and that many citizens were present in and around the Hagia Sophia and Sultanahmet Square, Head of Communications Duran said, "It was a lovely coincidence. In this context, I saw that everyone was affected by this exhibition. There is a crowd outside right now. I think it was particularly meaningful that those who visited HagiaSophia had the opportunity to learn about the conquest, Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, and his mindset, and to appreciate his intellectual side. The Directorate of Communications will continue its activities in this regard."

Head of Communications Duran exchanged Eid greetings with citizens touring the tent and posed for photos with them.
