Delivering remarks following the Presidential Cabinet Meeting, President Erdoğan said: “In politics and foreign policy, our sole compass is Türkiye’s interests. Even if it means paying a price, we will never hesitate to do what is right and auspicious for Türkiye and the Turkish people.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered remarks during a press conference following the Presidential Cabinet Meeting at the Presidential Complex.
“We believe that the path to peace, prosperity, and security lies in unity and solidarity. To this end, we are making sincere efforts to reduce disputes and strengthen alliances throughout our region. As Türkiye, we no longer wish to see division or discord either in Libya or in any other Muslim country. Inshallah, this desire of ours will become a reality in Libya as well. To this end, Türkiye will continue to engage in dialogue with all stakeholders,” President Erdoğan said.
“Let me underline emphasize the following fact: The reactions that followed the approval of the agreement, particularly those from the European Union, have no legitimate basis. Our policy regarding the Eastern Mediterranean is very clear. We are not, so to speak, out to score a goal against anyone in the Eastern Mediterranean. We are simply concerned with protecting our rights and interests with regard to our maritime zone. We advocate for disputes to be addressed through peaceful means and resolved through dialogue with all coastal states. We expect all stakeholders, particularly the European Union, to display the same constructive will,” President Erdoğan said.
“Everyone should know that aggressive rhetoric that is out of touch with reality does no one any good. Türkiye is not a country that gives credence to such rhetoric or shapes its policies based on it anyway. In politics and foreign policy, our sole compass is Türkiye’s interests. Even if it means paying a price, we will never hesitate to do what is right and auspicious for Türkiye and the Turkish people. I would like to remind those who are trying to exclude Türkiye from the Eastern Mediterranean that we expect them to respect the shared will of our country and Libya,” President Erdoğan said.
