“National Will and Democratic Resilience: The 10th Anniversary of 15 July” programme to be held

The Presidency's Directorate of Communications will organise a series of events abroad under the theme “National Will and Democratic Resilience: The 10th Anniversary of 15 July” to mark the tenth anniversary of the coup attempt of 15 July 2016.

The events aim to communicate the resolute stance adopted by the Turkish nation in defence of its democratic legitimacy and constitutional order to the international community more effectively. In this context, it is envisaged that 15 July will be addressed not only for its significance in Türkiye's recent history but also as an example of a universal struggle to safeguard the will of the people, democratic legitimacy, and the constitutional order.

Accordingly, throughout July, programmes will be held in a total of ten countries: Germany (Berlin), Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo), Belgium (Brussels), Switzerland (Bern), the Netherlands (The Hague), Indonesia (Jakarta), South Africa (Pretoria), the Republic of Albania (Tirana), Nigeria (Abuja), and the United Kingdom (London). Within the scope of the programme, academics, opinion leaders, media representatives, civil society organisations, and decision-makers will be brought together, providing an opportunity to address 15 July on the international level from different dimensions.

The aim is for participants to develop an interdisciplinary understanding of the subject, contribute to building a more resilient social structure against similar future threats by learning from the past, and strengthen cooperation and mutual understanding between countries.

As part of the events, photo exhibitions will be organised to introduce the memory of 15 July to international audiences in the host countries, and screenings of the documentary "Şafak Vakti (Daybreak)" are planned.
