“We do not condone wasting public assets”

Speaking at a ceremony for the 164th Foundation Anniversary of the Turkish Court of Accounts, President Erdoğan said: “Just as we regard defending the national will as a matter of honor, we do not condone wasting public assets, their exploitation through illegal and irregular means, or especially their use as a stepping stone for personal gain. It is our red line that all public employees, regardless of their position, title, or rank, act with sensitivity when using resources.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a speech at a ceremony for the 164th Foundation Anniversary of the Turkish Court of Accounts in Ankara.

“Just as we regard defending the national will as a matter of honor, we do not condone wasting public assets, their exploitation through illegal and irregular means, or especially their use as a stepping stone for personal gain. Our stance on this issue is crystal clear. Every one of our 86 million citizens has a right to public assets. The poor, the needy, the orphans, and the destitute all have a share. The public treasury is also a trust entrusted to us by future generations. It is our red line that all public employees, regardless of their position, title, or rank, act with sensitivity when using resources. The resources allocated to public officials by virtue of their duties or positions are not anyone's personal property. It does not matter what is written on their door. No public official can or should use them as if they were their personal wallet. We cannot allow this. Especially the scandals centered around local administrations, which we have recently followed - sometimes with astonishment and sometimes with shame - can never be excused. It is our duty to fight, within the framework of law and legislation, against anyone who views what are entrusted to them by the people as spoils,” President Erdoğan said.
