“From Zero Waste to COP31: Türkiye’s Climate Diplomacy” panel to be held

The Directorate of Communications will hold a panel titled "From Zero Waste to COP31: Türkiye’s Climate Diplomacy" on 27 October 2026 in Ankara and will officially launch the book "Climate Diplomacy," prepared in Turkish and English.

The panel, which will be held to examine Türkiye’s national policies and practices in combating climate change within the framework of international climate diplomacy and to provide a comprehensive assessment of developments ranging from the Zero Waste approach to the COP processes, will feature opening remarks by Minister of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change Murat Kurum and Head of Communications Prof. Burhanettin Duran.

The programme will address Türkiye’s climate change mitigation efforts and sustainable development goals, the role of Zero Waste practices in environmental and climate policies, efforts to promote the circular economy and resource efficiency, and Türkiye’s position in international climate negotiations.

The event will bring together academics specialising in the field, journalists and representatives of civil society organisations, and will also mark the conclusion of the Environment and Climate Media Programme, which includes members of the international press.

The panel will examine a range of issues, including rising global temperatures and extreme weather events linked to increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere; the impact of climate change on ecological balance and the sustainability of natural resources; and zero-waste initiatives.

The session will also discuss interconnected environmental challenges, such as declining forest cover, habitat loss, flooding, and the vulnerability of food systems, as well as international cooperation, which is vital to addressing this global crisis given its transboundary nature, and the role of COP31 in shaping climate policies.
