President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan departed for New York, United States, to attend the 81st Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.
President Erdoğan was seen off at the State Guest House at Atatürk Airport by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Governor of İstanbul Davut Gül, and AK Party İstanbul Provincial Chair Abdullah Özdemir.
President Erdoğan was accompanied by First Lady Emine Erdoğan, Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek, Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır, Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat, Director of the National Intelligence Organisation (MİT) İbrahim Kalın, Head of Communications Prof. Burhanettin Duran, Chief Advisor to the President on Foreign Policy and Security Akif Çağatay Kılıç, and Chairman of the Council of Elders of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) Binali Yıldırım.
President Erdoğan arrived in New York, United States, aboard the “TUR” aircraft at 10:50 p.m. Turkish local time.
President Erdoğan was welcomed at John F. Kennedy International Airport by Türkiye’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Ahmet Yıldız; Türkiye’s Ambassador to the United States, Sedat Önal; Consul General of Türkiye in New York, Ambassador Muhittin Ahmet Yazal; and other officials.
President Erdoğan to address UN General Assembly for 16th time
President Erdoğan will be the fourth speaker on 22 September, the first day of the General Debate of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly, known as the UN’s High-Level Week and featuring addresses by world leaders.
In his 16th address to the UN General Assembly, President Erdoğan is expected to focus primarily on Israel’s genocide in Gaza, the recognition of Palestine as a state, and steps to be taken against Israel at the international level.
President Erdoğan will draw particular attention to the situation in Gaza and call on UN Member States to stand against Israel’s attacks.
President Erdoğan will also meet with heads of state and government on the margins of the General Assembly and deliver remarks at the High-level Event on Climate Action and the Just Transition to be hosted by the UN Secretary-General on 23 September.
